Last weekend, Values and Public Life students gathered for a group lunch at Cargot followed by a trip to McCarter Theatre to see “The Niceties.” The play takes place at an elite college in Connecticut, where an ambitious African-American undergraduate attends her esteemed white professor’s office hours to discuss her paper on the American Revolution.

As The Boston Globe explains, “The play explores questions of race, power, language, generational conflict, and the tricky matter of identity politics,” all themes that VPL students explore in the program, which equips students to bring informed discussion of values into the public sphere and to integrate a critical value perspective into their future pursuits.

Applications for the Class of 2021 VPL Program close Monday, March 25.
