Susan Brison, renowned for her outstanding teaching record, was awarded Dartmouth’s Dean of the Faculty Award for Outstanding Mentoring and Advising in 2013. Her philosophical work is centered in two areas – ethical and legal problems of gender-based violence and freedom of expression. She is well known for her book, Aftermath: Violence and the Remaking of a Self (Princeton University Press 2002). Her current research concerns free speech and conflicts of rights and feminist theory on gender-based violence. Brison will teach an undergraduate legal philosophy seminar, Free Speech in the Internet Age, in the spring 2017.
