Sandra Bermann, Cotsen Professor in the Humanities, professor of comparative literature, and director of the Program in Values and Public Life, was named one of four Princeton faculty to be awarded an Old Dominion Research Professorship for 2023-2024. The Professorship will support Professor Bermann's book project on “Poetry and War: Reading René Char’s Fureur et mystère,” and a related collaborative project entitled, “Poetry and War: Translating the Untranslatable,” which studies the “afterlife” of Char’s supposedly “untranslatable” poetry through the many language versions in which it appears." Professors Bridget Alsdorf, Art & Archaeology, Laura Edwards, History, and Sarah Rivett, English, and American Studies, have also been named Old Dominion Research Professors.
The Old Dominion Research Professorships are awarded by Princeton University's Humanities Council.
