Princeton University was recently recognized by The Philosophical Gourmet Report as a top institution to study philosophy of religion.
Princeton’s Project in Philosophy and Religion (3PR), directed by Andrew Chignell, the Laurance S. Rockefeller Professor of Religion and the University Center for Human Values, and Lara Buchak, professor of philosophy, brings together an interdisciplinary group of students and scholars who share a research interest in the philosophy of religion, broadly construed.
The scope (“broadly construed”) is intentionally open-ended: the focus is on the philosophy of religion as it is typically practiced by Anglo-American ("analytic") philosophers, but we also include the history of philosophical thinking about religious issues, the psychology and cognitive science of religion, theories and methods in the study of religion, the philosophical study of non-western religious traditions, continental philosophy, and religious ethics.
3PR sponsors postdocs and Visiting Research Scholars thanks to generous support from UCHV, the Philosophy Department, and outside donors. 3PR recently launched Précis, an undergraduate and public-facing effort, which hosts reading groups, talks, and Wintersession seminars.
