Philip Pettit wins the Special Jury Prize from Sabanci University

April 17, 2023

Philip Pettit, Laurance S. Rockefeller University Professor in the University Center for Human Values, was honored as the 2023 recipient of the Special Jury Prize, a Sakip Sabanci International Research Award in the social sciences. The award theme for this year was “The 100th Anniversary of the Republic of Turkey: Republicanism in Theory and Application.”

Sabanci University relies on an independent, international jury to administer the prize, and to make related research awards in a competition among younger scholars, since 2005. It covers fields in the full range of the social sciences, focusing on issues related to Turkey, and the most recent recipients have been Lord Nicolas Stern, Joseph Nye, Pippa Norris and, Susan Michie. The award is backed by the Sabanci Foundation which, like the University, was founded by the late Sakip Sabanci.

Due to the tragedy of the earthquake earlier in the year, the 2023 prize was awarded at an online event on April 10 rather than in person.
