Congratulations to Melissa Lane, the Class of 1943 Professor of Politics, whose book "Of Rule and Office: Plato's Ideas of the Political" won the Journal of the History of Philosophy's 2024 Book Prize.
Lane delivered her sixth and final Isaiah Berlin Lecture at Oxford University this week. Ursula Coope, Chair of the Philosophy Faculty at Oxford, has described Lane's Berlin Lectures as "the most successfully interdisciplinary lectures I've ever been to, drawing colleagues from classics, politics, history and law (as well as, of course, philosophy)." You can watch and read the lectures on the Oxford Philosophy Faculty website.
Lane is the only person ever to have delivered both the Carlyle Lectures (on which the book was based) and the Berlin Lectures at Oxford.
