Jan-Werner Mueller, Roger Williams Strauss Professor of Politics, writes about the emerging authoritarian-populist art of governance in the September 20 edition of The Guardian. Professor Mueller explains that populist leaders are busy “perfecting the art of faking democracy.” They increasingly learn sophisticated techniques from one another to disable democracy rather than practice effective governance that can tackle world issues. Mueller’s latest book, Democracy Rules is published by Allen Lane.
