Laurance S. Rockefeller Professor of Philosophy and Human Values Elizabeth Harman wrote the op-ed, “What Amy Coney Barrett doesn’t understand about abortion” published in the December 9 issue of The New York Daily News. Harman discusses abortion rights. A “safe haven” law that would permit legal abandonment of a newborn does not answer the worry that a loss of abortion rights would force motherhood upon women and girls. Harman points out that many who seek abortion would nevertheless choose motherhood if forced to continue their pregnancies. They would be forced into motherhood. The right to abortion is also a right to decide when and whether to become a mother.
