Andrew Chignell, Laurance S. Rockefeller Professor, with appointments in Religion, Philosophy, and the University Center for Human Values, was interviewed by Kelly Corrigan on the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) show Tell Me More for the segment "Hope vs. Optimism." Professor Chignell enlightens listeners on his research on hope and despair and how many things play a role, among them nurture and culture and how hope requires, "a disciplined effort to look at the outcome as possible" while despair can result from "an inability to mindfully maintain a kind of hopeful focus."

Professor Chignell's five-minute Tell Me More interview aired on April 5 as a companion piece to a Kelly Corrigan Wonders podcast on National Public Radio (NPR). The episode featured actress Anna Deavere Smith who discussed her observations on hope and optimism with commentary provided by Professor Chignell.
