Event Description

Megan Wicks, a Philosophy doctoral student at Princeton University, will speak on "Motivated Reasoning."

Hermeneutics as a branch has traditionally been concerned with law, art, and religious texts. Focusing on one key problem in the issue of interpretation in art and law—the paradox of the hermeneutic circle—illuminates the following principles. First, that knowledge is possible. Second, that knowledge is nonetheless constructed. And, lastly, the value of art interpretation as a case study for interpretive methodology generally.
