Event Description

For all the tears shed over breakups, very little ink has been spilt in contemporary philosophy. This reading group will meet over pizza once per week, for four weeks, to discuss the neglected question of whether there is anything ethically important about breaking up. Should we want to avoid breakups? Are there better or worse ways to handle them? Does technology create new pitfalls in this arena? Each week, we will have a chance to read a short piece discussing some aspect of breakups. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own ideas, favorite works of fiction, and bad pop songs to share and discuss with the group.

The group will meet in 1879 Hall, Room 123, for four consecutive Wednesdays (3/20, 3/27, 4/3, 4/10) from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Pizza will be served. Please contact Austen McDougal to sign up.
