Details
This workshop explores the relationship between the political and medical dimensions of disability. While scholars are tending towards understanding disability as both a political and medical phenomenon, questions remain about what exactly the relationship should be between these elements of disability. What role, if any, should medical experts play in defining disability? What is the relationship between disability and impairment? When is it permissible to select for disability? How does thinking about the intersection of disability with other marginalized identities impact our understanding of disability? This workshop will bring together scholars in philosophy and bioethics to explore these and related questions.
Organized by Sara Purinton, postdoctoral research associate, moral theory.
