Melissa Lane’s book Eco-Republic: What the Ancients Can Teach Us About Ethics, Virtue, and Sustainable Living was published this month by Princeton University Press.  Also printed in the UK by Peter Lang International Academic Publishers as Eco-Republic: Ancient Thinking for a Green Age, the book draws on ancient Greek thought--especially Plato's Republic – to present a model of a society whose well-being and existence is contingent on its citizens distinguishing a shared standard of values that nurture an ecologically sustainable society. Professor Lane is a Professor of Politics and the Director of the Undergraduate Certificate Program in Values and Public Life at Princeton University.
