Alan Patten, Professor of Politics at Princeton University, will serve as director of the University Center for Human Values during the 2012-2013 academic year. Professor Patten’s research and teaching interests include the history of political thought and contemporary political philosophy. He is the author of Hegel's Idea of Freedom (Oxford, 1999), co-editor of Language Rights and Political Theory (Oxford, 2003), and author of a number of journal articles in journals such as History of Political Thought, Political Theory, Ethics, Journal of Political Philosophy and Philosophy & Public Affairs. He is currently completing a book entitled Equal Recognition: The Moral Foundations of Minority Cultural Rights. Professor Patten is also the Editor of Philosophy & Public Affairs. His appointment as acting director of UCHV is effective July 1, 2012.
