Event Description
Professor Nancy Hirschmann, Department of Politics, University of Pennsylvania
Abstract: Disability theory’s understanding of the body has particular significance for political theorists’ understanding of freedom and the will. Borrowing from feminist theory in particular, Nancy Hirschmann will consider the ways that our understanding of freedom as it has developed from the seventeenth century to today, and particularly our understanding of what the will is and its place in the idea of freedom, should be rethought in light of the insights that disability studies affords.
