Medical Plan Information for Visiting Fellows who are U.S. citizens

Visiting Fellows with an appointment of at least 50% time or more for five months or more are eligible for coverage under a University medical plan. You will have 31 days from your appointment start date to elect medical plan coverage for yourself and/or your eligible dependents. If you do not make an election you will be defaulted into the High Deductible Plan with employee only coverage (no prescription plan and a $5,000 deductible). Upon your arrival, the Human Resources Office will provide you with a package of benefits information. This package will contain detailed information regarding your medical plan options, monthly cost information, and instructions on how to enroll or waive the coverage. Please review this information carefully, and if you have any questions, you may contact the Benefits team within the Office of Human Resources at 609-258-3302 or via email [email protected]. You may also view their web site for additional information on the Human Resources website.

Medical Plan Information for Visiting Fellows on a J-1 Visa

Federal regulations require any scholar in J visa status to have a minimum level of health insurance coverage. More information on that requirement is published by the Davis International Center here. Princeton University offers the J-1 Visa Health Insurance Plan and the AETNA HMO Health Insurance Plan which meet the minimum requirements. Visiting Fellows on a J-1 Visa are eligible to elect medical plan coverage, regardless of their duty time or length of appointment. You will have 31 days from your appointment start date to elect coverage for yourself and/or your eligible dependents. If you do not make an election, you will be defaulted into the J-1 Visa Plan with "employee only" coverage. Upon your arrival, the Human Resources Office will provide you with a package of benefits information. This package will contain detailed information regarding your medical plan options, monthly cost information, and instructions on how to enroll or waive the coverage. Please review this information carefully, and if you have any questions, you may contact the Benefits team with the Office of Human Resources at 609-258-3302 or via email [email protected].
